Your medication is a subcutaneous injection, which means it goes just under the skin. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Before you start
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water
Gather your supplies: medication vial, syringe, alcohol swab
Check that your medication is free from any foreign objects
Step 1: Prepare your dose
Clean the vial top with an alcohol swab
Draw air into the syringe equal to your dose
Insert the needle into the vial and push the air in
Turn the vial upside down and draw your prescribed dose
Tap the syringe gently to move air bubbles to the top
Push the plunger slightly to remove air bubbles
Step 2: Choose and clean your injection site
Use your stomach (abdomen), at least 2 inches away from your belly button. Rotate sites with each injection to avoid irritation.
Wipe the area with an alcohol swab and let it dry completely.
Step 3: Inject the medication
Pinch a fold of skin at your chosen site
Insert the needle at a 45-90 degree angle (quick, dart-like motion)
Push the plunger slowly and steadily to inject all medication
Wait 5-10 seconds before removing the needle
Release the skin fold and withdraw the needle
Step 4: After injection
Apply gentle pressure with a cotton ball if needed (don't rub)
Dispose of the syringe safely
Record your injection date and site
