How Do I Store My Medication?

Proper refrigeration and storage instructions, plus what to do if medication gets warm during travel.

Proper storage keeps your medication effective and safe to use.

Storage instructions

Refrigerate: Store your medication in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (36-46°F).

Keep in original packaging: Protect from light - only the vial/ medication needs to be kept in the refrigerator. All other items (black pouch, ice pack, alcohol pads, and empty syringes) can be kept room-temperature.

Do not freeze: Frozen medication should not be used.

Packaging for Temperature-Sensitive Medications

Medications are shipped in insulated packaging with cooling elements, such as ice packs and thermal pouches, to maintain a stable temperature during transit. This packaging is designed to protect the medication even during longer delivery times or warmer weather conditions.

What about during travel?

  • Use an insulated bag with an ice pack

  • Don't let the medication freeze

  • Refrigerate as soon as possible at your destination

  • Avoid exposing the medication to extreme heat or direct sunlight during transit

If your medication gets warm

If your package was not cold upon arrival and the ice pack was melted, there is no need to worry. The medication is shelf-stable and remains effective even if it has warmed during transit. It can tolerate temperatures up to 35°C for 4 days and up to 25°C for 15 days without impacting its efficacy.

Signs your medication may be compromised

Do NOT use your medication if:

  • The liquid appears cloudy or discolored

  • You see particles floating in the solution

  • The vial is cracked or damaged

  • It was frozen then thawed - The vial shows visible damage or leakage
