What If My Needle Seems Defective?

What to do if your needle or syringe is damaged—don't use it, contact us for replacements.

If your needle or syringe seems defective, do not use it. Here's what to do.

Signs of a defective needle or syringe

  • Needle is bent or damaged

  • Needle appears dull or has a visible burr

  • Syringe plunger is stuck or doesn't move smoothly

  • Packaging was already opened or damaged

  • Syringe markings are unclear or missing

What to do

  • Do NOT attempt to use a defective needle or syringe

  • Set it aside safely (do not throw in regular trash)

  • Use a different needle/syringe from the package supplies as you should have extras

Proper disposal

Dispose of defective needles and used syringes in a sharps container or a puncture-resistant container (like a thick plastic bottle with a secure lid). Do not throw them in regular trash.
